Hayaat Group was invited to develop The Green in association with the university, as well as the Bradford Municipal Development Council, and Yorkshire Forward. An ambitious sustainable residential complex at the heart of the university’s campus, its 10 blocks have more than 1,000 study bedrooms in townhouse and cluster flat arrangements.
An exemplary showcase of the group’s credentials, The Green is regarded as a benchmark in sustainable construction. Designed and developed to very high specifications as part of the university’s on-going Ecoversity programme, it features sustainable construction materials and methods, heat recovery ventilation units, an energy centre building, a rain water harvesting pond as well as several other green technologies intended to reduce energy consumption.
The Green was the first multi-residential building in the UK to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding standard, and achieved the highest ever grade on the BREEAM scale for any building – 95.05%. In total, the development has won seven national and international awards and is part of the £750 million redevelopment of Bradford City Centre.
The Green followed the purchase of 20 acres of city centre land by Hayaat Group, and was the UK’s largest single-phase development in terms of bed spaces ever attempted. It was completed within budget and in a recorded timeline of just 84 weeks, during a once in a generation economic downturn that halted most major UK construction projects.
